Anne and Bob - Trip to Japan     -     March 17-April 5, 2016 (if you click on the pictures you will usually get a larger version)
March 20-22, 2016

Sunday, March 20 - We drove a bit over two hours to the Japanese orienteering championships where Anne won the W60A class by 4 minutes even though she made a 2-3 minute error on the course.
The area was very hilly which made for a slow kilometer time.
The terrain along the road from Mishima around Mt Fuji and beyond to the competition area reminded me in many ways of Norway.
The competition center was in a sports hall and to the right is a short video from there.

Monday, March 21 - We joined Rob's family (wife Masumi, 13 yr old son Rui and 9 yr old son Caio) for a trip south to Shimoda on the Izu peninsula. We stopped off to wander through a 446 meter long tunnel from 1905 (Rob drove the car).
Later on we stopped to walk, climb and swing along a river with the Kawazu seven water falls which range from 2 to 30_ meters in fall.
To the right is a slide show of the Kawazu seven water falls and below a short video with a short bit at the start of the tunnel.

I'll take a diversion here to mention the forest which can be very dense at times but at others has rather open bamboo or even more open cedar forest as in the pictures to the right.

Tuesday, March 22 - We drove from the hotel in Shimodo and rounded much of the Izu peninsula. The hills, gorges and water reminded me even more of Norway except that the population here is much, much greater.
