Saturday, June 9 - We headed east from Blythe towards Phoenix and saw a bit of the Arizona desert, mostly flat with hills far in the background and mostly straight roads where you could see for 9-10 miles or more.
We stopped at the junction of highways 60 and 17 to buy ice cream from a little wagon out in no place. The temperature there was about 43*C. Shortly after that we started climbing to about 1000 m above sea level. We drove for a hundred miles or so at that level until we gor near Sedona where we saw all the red rock which you see in some of our pictures. Shortly after Sedona we saw forest for the first time since we landed in Los Angeles !! After that we drove to Flagstaff which is about 2 000m high, about right for altitude training for my athletes and of course Anne. |
