Vision For All trip to El Salvador May 2023
Saturday, May 6 - After packing a lot of glasses and a few clothes Anne was ready for her trip to El Salvador to test eyes and give away glasses on her 5th Vision for All trip.
Spanish is the main language in El Salvador, so Anne will have good use of her Spanish studies. (2 hours/week on Skype with friends in Tarragona.)

Monday, May 8 - The first two days they will be working in the town where they are living, San Pedro Nunualco. This was the first day to do eye examinations and the two optomitrists Anne and Kristin did 179. The group gave out 290 pairs of glasses.
They've had a flat on their minibus and no WiFi, but otherwise everything is fine.
Tuesday, May 9 - They began the day with breakfast with the chairman of the local help organisation, Madre Cria.
Incidently there's an 8 hour time difference between me in Sweden and Anne in El Salvador.
Today Anne and Kristin did 240 eye examinations and the group gave out 308 pairs of glasses.
 (Pictures from Tuesday below.)

Wednesday, May 9 - A rest day when they could go to the beach in the 35 degree weather.
Here are ANNE,  NELSON, KRISTIN, and  EIDUR
                     ready to leave Arlanda airport

Thursday, May 11 - This was a full day that rolls over onto Saturday. There were so many people in San Antonio Masahuat that they couldn't do all the examinations, so they decided to make Saturday an extra work day, and come back to San Antanio Masahuat. Therefore those statistics will not be available until Saturday. There are however a number of pictures.
We start with Wednesday lunch to the right: beef, large shrimps, deep-fried bananas and rice.

Below is a series from Thursday's work
Picture
Friday, May 12 - Today in San Pedro Masahuat they did 161 examination and gave out 188 pairs of glasses. Many today didn't get glasses because they were old, had cataracts and needed operations.
Saturday, May 13 - We are back in San Antonio Masahuat today and our total examinations here (including Thursday) is 278 and we gave out 403 pairs of glasses.
Sunday, May 14 - A free day for a visit to the volcano Cerro Verde6 which had its last eruption 25,000 years ago. From it you can see the volcano Izalco, which erupted continuously from 1770 until 1966
Monday, May 15 - In Playa San Marcelino,204 people got eye examinations and we gave out 239 pairs of glasses.
Tuesday, May 16 - 196 people had their eyes examined and 262 pairs of glasses were given out.

Wednesday, May 17 - 237 people had their eyes examined and 315 pairs of glasses were given out. Another very hot day, but Thursday there will be air conditioning. Today there were excellent local assistents, young people that could speak English.
The sign in the series to the right shows the name of the city where they live. Most days they have about an hour drive in some direction.
Thursday, May 18 - This is the last work day and it is in San Pedro Masahuat.
During the day there were 219 examinations and 2261 pairs of glasses given out. This brings the totals I've given to 1714 eye examinations and 2261 glasses given out.
I now found out that my numbers on examinations only included those that got glasses. There were a few that had examinations but didn't get glasses. When the later are included there were 1748 examinations.
