  Mt Pinos - Orienteering
. June 23-24
June 25-27
Saturday and Sunday, June 23-24  we were on Mt Pinos where Anne ran in two orienteering competitions at 2200 m altitude and about 28*C in the shade. The forest was quite open, not creating much shade, and therefore it felt very hot. The area was also quite hilly which combined with the heat to make slow times. On Sunday Anne was quickest (by 11-12 minutes) on her course and despite an error free run she still took 52 minutes to complete the 3.4 km course.
The area was not very detailed although there were a number of boulders and with a number of trails the area was good for all categories of orienteers. I believe the 80 or so competitors was a good turnout for the well organised competition. Interestingly there were two other groups of Swedes at the competition and one lived next door to a former Swedish national team member that I used to coach (for 12-13 years), Peter Jakobsson.
On Saturday, I gave a talk and answered some questions on how to avoid making orienteering mistakes, although I mostly talked about how to develop good orienteering techniques.
